NFPA 72 COMPLIANT

Fire Alarm Inspection & Testing

Your fire alarm system is the backbone of your life safety plan — it detects danger and gives occupants time to evacuate. Titan Life Safety provides thorough NFPA 72-compliant inspections and testing to ensure every component performs when it counts.

NFPA 72 Compliant

All inspections meet current NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code requirements

AHJ Reports Provided

Complete inspection documentation for your Authority Having Jurisdiction

Semi-Annual & Annual Service

Flexible scheduling for all required inspection frequencies

Repairs & Troubleshooting

Trouble conditions diagnosed and corrected by our trained technicians

NFPA 72 requires annual inspection and testing of all fire alarm systems by a qualified service technician.

Many systems also require semi-annual testing. Non-compliance can void insurance and result in AHJ violations.

WHAT WE TEST

All System Components

A fire alarm system is only as reliable as its weakest component. We test every device in the system.

Smoke Detectors

Ionization and photoelectric detectors tested for sensitivity and proper response. Spot-type and beam detectors both serviced.

Heat Detectors

Fixed-temperature and rate-of-rise heat detectors tested per NFPA 72. Used in areas where smoke detectors are not appropriate.

Manual Pull Stations

Single and double-action pull stations tested for proper activation and reset. Verified for correct placement per code.

Notification Appliances

Horns, strobes, and speaker/strobes tested for proper operation, coverage, and candela output per NFPA 72.

Control Panels & Annunciators

Fire alarm control panels inspected for trouble conditions, battery backup, and proper zone identification.

Duct Smoke Detectors

HVAC duct detectors tested for proper airflow response and HVAC shutdown function.

NFPA 72 REQUIREMENTS

Required Inspection Frequencies

Semi-Annual

  • Smoke detector sensitivity testing (select devices)
  • Manual pull station test
  • Notification appliance (horn/strobe) test
  • Battery and power supply check

Annual

  • Full system functional test per NFPA 72
  • All initiating devices tested (smoke, heat, pull stations)
  • All notification appliances verified
  • Control panel and annunciator inspection
  • Central station monitoring signal verification
  • Inspection report submitted to AHJ

Every 3 Years

  • Smoke detector sensitivity testing for all devices
  • Verify detectors are within listed sensitivity range
  • Replace any detectors outside acceptable range

Every 10 Years

  • Replace all smoke detectors (manufacturer recommendation)
  • Full system re-inspection after replacement
  • Update system documentation
WHAT WE FIND

Common Fire Alarm Issues

Dirty or Contaminated Detectors

Dust, insects, and airborne contaminants cause detectors to drift out of sensitivity range, leading to false alarms or missed detection.

Dead or Weak Batteries

Battery backup is required for all fire alarm systems. Weak batteries cause trouble signals and can leave the system unprotected during a power outage.

Disabled or Bypassed Devices

Devices bypassed to silence nuisance alarms are a serious life safety violation. We identify and correct all bypassed points.

Communication Failures

Loss of central station communication means emergency dispatch won't be notified. We verify all monitoring signals are transmitting correctly.

Outdated or End-of-Life Equipment

Smoke detectors older than 10 years should be replaced. Obsolete control panels may no longer be serviceable. We identify aging equipment.

Improper Device Placement

Detectors installed too close to HVAC vents, in dead air spaces, or at incorrect heights can fail to detect a fire. We identify placement violations.

THE PROCESS

What to Expect on Inspection Day

We coordinate with your building staff to minimize disruption, notify the monitoring station before testing, and restore the system to full operation before we leave. You receive a complete inspection report the same day.

01

Pre-Test Coordination

We notify your central station monitoring company and coordinate with building staff before any testing begins.

02

Device-by-Device Testing

Every initiating device, notification appliance, and control panel function is tested and documented per NFPA 72.

03

Deficiency Documentation

All deficiencies are documented with device location, type, and the applicable NFPA 72 reference.

04

System Restore & Report

The system is restored to normal operation, monitoring is re-enabled, and your inspection report is delivered same day.
